Principal's Message

Welcome to Lt. Colonel Barker V.C. School

We are ready to start a great year of adventures in learning!

Welcome to our Barker students and families!  My name is Kim MacMillan and I'm honored to be returning for my eighth year as principal of Lt. Colonel Barker V.C. School. We’ve all had to make adjustments in our everyday lives, just as we are doing in preparing for the 2021-2022 school year. Due to the pandemic, and the guidelines issued by Public Health, it will continue to look a little different at Barker School this year. It is important that you review the Barker School Safe Return to School Plan to familiarize yourself with changes specific to Barker, as each school will have an individual plan. Please note that changes will continue to occur based on Mountain View School Division or Public Health guidelines.

We greatly appreciate all your efforts in supporting the continuation of learning. Thank you for your continued efforts during this very trying time as we work closely with you to best support your child’s learning. The Barker Team will continue to work together to provide meaningful learning opportunities, while ensuring the safety of our students and staff.

Lt. Colonel Barker V.C School is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 School with a population of 200 students.  It is located in Dauphin, Manitoba.  Through our school planning efforts, we have set goals to improve student learning in the areas of literacy, numeracy, as well as to enhance student well-being.  We are committed to providing quality education for all learners, a wide variety of activities to support and broaden the interests of all students and, as a staff, to continue to grow and learn professionally.

Our Mission statement is as follows:

“Lt. Colonel Barker V.C. School is a learning environment where we are caring, responsible and respectful citizens.”

As a Barker School family, we continue to prepare our students to become good citizens by following the 3Rs-

* Be Respectful,

* Be Responsible and

* Be Ready.

The Lt. Colonel Barker V.C. School staff encourages family involvement and hopes to build educational partnerships with you. By working together, we can help each child achieve an excellent education in a safe and positive environment. A positive relationship between home and school is a key factor in promoting student learning and ensuring ongoing academic success.
