Patrols
Students in Grade 5 at Barker School are responsible for safely helping students cross the street before and after school. Patrols start at 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM every school day. The corners which students at Barker School patrol are Davidson and Bond and Forrest and Bond. The first thing to do is slow down...School patrols are not there to control traffic. Their duty is to control when kids should cross the street. They wait for drivers to stop, then let kids cross when it’s safe.
A driver should keep their foot on the brake and proceed only when the kids are on the other sidewalk and the patrol has returned to the curb.
Over 10,000 patrols in schools across the province help kids cross the road safely and prevent traffic collisions.
